Local Electronic Recycling Resources
Downers Grove:
The Downers Grove Township Highway Department is pleased to announce that it has entered into a contract with AVA E-Recycling to resume our electronic recycling program. The changes to their recycling program are as follows:
1) Downers Grove will no longer accept audio, video cassettes, or CDs.
2) All TVs will need to have a prepaid coupon from AVA to be accepted. Prices for TV’s range from $15-60. You can take a copy of the coupon to AVA’s retail store in Glendale Heights and use it like cash towards the purchase of refurbished electronic equipment.
Visit AVA’s website, www.avarecycling.com and click on the municipal box on the top left portion of the screen to obtain prices for recycling TV’s and coupon purchases. Their recycling events occur at the Highway Garage, 318 Quincy Street, Westmont IL 60559 on the third Saturday of each month at the same time and location unless that date falls on a holiday weekend. Lisle:
Date: Third Saturday of each month
Time: 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.,
Location: 4930 Lincoln Avenue, (IL Rt. 53) Lisle.
These events will not occur if the Saturday falls on a holiday weekend.
Accepted items (PDF) include: computers, monitors, printers, scanners, mobile devices, still and video cameras, televisions, MP3 players, microwaves, batteries of all types, chargers, cables and wires of all types, radios/speakers, fax machines, stereo systems, keyboards, mice, DVD & VHS players, digital converter boxes, video game consoles and alarm clocks.
Wheaton:
Date: Second Saturday of each month
Time: 9 a.m.-noon
Location: Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive (near Wheaton Police Department)

Accepted Items:
- Electronics such as TVs - flat-screen ONLY at this time, printers, computers, computer monitors, laptops, gaming consoles, docking stations, fax machines, scanners, hard drives, stereos, copy machines, cell phones, keyboards/mice, extension cords, telephones, cameras, network cables, computer cords, VHS tapes. To ensure the security of confidential data, all electronic components containing memory (such as hard drives, etc.) will be dismantled and destroyed.
- Scrap metal
- Lawn mowers
- Small household appliances such as blenders, microwaves, toasters, alarm clocks, hair dryers, etc. Nearly anything with a cord
- Household batteries
- Cooking oil
- Fluorescent tube bulbs (no CFLs, please)
- At this time, the electronics hauler for the monthly collections cannot accept CRT televisions (large tube TVs), projection-screen TVs and console TVs
- Electronics containing liquids or other hazardous materials, including air conditioners, refrigerators and dehumidifiers
- Smoke detectors (which can only be properly disposed of by returning them to the manufacturer; they are not accepted at electronic recycling collections or hazardous waste sites)
- Thermostats
- CFL light bulbs
